Winnsboro S.C. ~~ The town of Winnsboro has been awarded a 241-thousand dollar grant from the Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) for two new water pumps and a new pump station. The project will replace an existing pump station that supplies water to the Southern part of the County. The existing pump was installed in 1987 on 11th street. The station houses two-pumps but one pump had to be abandoned due to an underground pipe break. Winnsboro Town Council voted to build a new pump station at a cost of $264-thousand dollars.

n

Town Council directed Grant Administrator, Connie Shackelford to seek grant funding to build a new station and install two-new updated pumps. The State RIA funds is designed to help small rural communities to improve dated and obsolete water and sewer infrastructure. RIA feels that newer updated infrastructure is a way to help  smaller rural communities compete for new industry that leads to better Economic Development.

The grant requires that the town provide the cost for permits and Engineering.  Winnsboro Town Council approved $23,000 to match the RIA funding on January 21. The total cost of the project is $264-thousand dollars. Construction is expected to begin in Summer 2014.
